Suraj Kund
Suraj Kund is situated in the east of the town Sunam at the distance of about 1.5 km. The theh of Surajpur of Sunam is also very near. At one time it was spread over a large area. At this place, a large Temple of Sun god ( Surya Mandir ) existed but, it is said Mahmood Ghaznvi or Taimur demolished it. It is also said that River Saraswati was flowing near the Suraj Kund. The Suraj Kund named after the Sun God is surrounded by verandahs on all sides. Ashes of cremated people are immersed in the water flowing out of the kund by those who cannot go to the Ganges for this ritual. In one corner of the kund, the 'Linga' or shrine of Lord Shiva is placed. The other two Kunds are the Sita Kund and the Bharat Kund. There are, now three small temples at this place. The Suraj Kund is now in a dilapidated condition. Note : On the day of Surya Grahan, three baths in surajkund cure all the diseases and one can enjoy healthy life forever.
